What began 70 years ago in the basement of a local hardware store has evolved into a global leader in manufacturing and selling gymnastics equipment. American Athletic Inc. is known for providing top-tier equipment for gymnastics clubs and events across the globe. We are proud of our rich history, spanning over several decades, during which we have continually innovated and set the standard for excellence in gymnastics equipment.
In 2004, Russell Brands, LLC acquired American Athletic, Inc. (“AAI”), located in Jefferson, Iowa, and consolidated its Spalding equipment, namely basketball systems, volleyball systems and gymnasium equipment, under one roof, alongside AAI’s gymnastic equipment products. In this way, the Spalding brand was paired with AAI’s 60 years of equipment expertise in manufacturing world-class athletic equipment.
AAI operates three up-to-date, well-equipped and well-maintained facilities in Jefferson, Iowa, totaling over 240,000 square feet, employing around 100 people. Here, the products are made with the highest quality materials and craftsmanship by hard-working Americans.
We utilize cutting-edge technology for steel and aluminum fabrication, painting, and product finishing for a variety of sports equipment products.

AAI started as the Official Equipment Supplier for USA Gymnastics since the organization was founded in the ‘60s, and in 1966, became the first company to produce a fiberglass bar, which revolutionized the sport of gymnastics. AAI is also the only U.S. equipment manufacturer whose line of gymnastics products has been tested and approved by the Federation Internationale de Gymnastique.
Our rich heritage and contributions such as the AAI Award to collegiate athletes down to Regional Rebates to support grassroots programs and high school scholarships have undeniably left a significant mark on the sport of gymnastics.
Our innovative equipment designs, commitment to quality, and support for competitive excellence have helped shape the training environment, enhance performance capabilities, and allow Team USA to dominate consistently as majority of US athletes train on AAI & Spalding Equipment.
Over the years, AAI has been selected as the official equipment supplier for dozens of major competitions, including the 1996 and 1984 Olympic Games, 1976 and 2008 Olympic Trials, 1991 1999 2003 and 2014 World Gymnastics Championships, Pan American Games, Special Olympics, NCAA Championships and many more.
Beyond simply providing exceptional equipment, AAI brings a team of highly trained professional technicians with over 100 years of cumulative experience to seamlessly navigate the demand of major events, ensuring smooth operations an understand how to work with television crews to keep an event running on schedules. Additionally, AAI has a network of US Dealers that supply equipment to hundreds of events annually. The dedication of our employees have enabled the most distinguished gymnasts to reach new heights, and allowed the famous AAI logo to be the backdrop to some of the most renowned gymnastics events.
Today, AAI is the official equipment supplier to USA Gymnastics, NCAA Gymnastics Championships, the YMCA National Championships, the Nadia Comaneci International Invitational, the Bart Connor Invitational, as well as the exclusive equipment to the THSGCA. AAI is also an official supporter of the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
